John Balestrieri is the creator of Percolator and Popsicolor, two other great photo apps for the iPhone. This one feels worth the higher price tag though, as it's not just a 'one size fit all' filtering tool. It's fortunate given that $3.99 is a little expensive for a photo filtering app. The results stemming from Waterlogue are really rather glorious. This is a rather sweet feature given that often the results would look great as a postcard. Typical sharing features are available, along with the option of turning images into a postcard to be sent out anywhere in the world. It's worth the wait though, with results always looking delightful. When processing multiple images, it can seem longwinded for the impatient user. At times, I found myself wishing I could stop the process halfway as some of the effects looked great before being completed.

During that time one can watch the app gradually introduce such effects, which is quite cool, with each brush stroke demonstrated as well as the gradual introduction of color. On the iPhone 5, it takes around 20 seconds for each image to process. Watch Waterlogue paint as it transforms your images. Waterlogue transforms your photos into luminous watercolors.

The slight downside here is that it can take a little while for the app to finish processing an image. Picked by Apple for inclusion in the App Store Best of 2014 You don’t need to paint to create beautiful watercolor imagesWaterlogue captures the essence of your photos in brilliant, liquid color. In each case, while the effect can be quite significant it never feels over the top or manufactured artificially. 12 presets are also available, giving an indication of what can be accomplished with example images working well in conjunction. Waterlogue comes with various settings to adjust the results, such as changing the borders, level of detail, wetness, outlines, and general colors. The app is universal, requires iOS 7.0 or better, and is optimized for iPhone 5. It's as attractive as it sounds too, genuinely looking like a watercolor image of the photograph. At this point, theres nothing more that I can say about Waterlogue other than 'buy it'. The app, as the name suggests, turns images into watercolor pictures. The App Store isn't short of photo filtering apps, but Waterlogue does something that makes it stand out from the rest: it actually looks quite realistic.
